I have been a practicing attorney in Kansas since 1995. I have extensive experience in family law including divorce, child custody, parenting time, and child support. I have handled hundreds of cases from beginning to end ranging from simple divorces to highly contested custody cases and appeals.
I have been a mediator in both domestic and civil law since 2000 and have mediated over 300 cases primarily concerning divorce and child custody.
Retaining an attorney is an important decision. My goal in representing a client is to make certain the client understands the legal process, the options and rights available to the client, and to be sure the client is comfortable not only with the process but with my representation. Priority is given to eliminating the fear of the unknown and explaining the court process clearly.
Good communication between an attorney and client is essential, and I make it a part of my everyday practice to respond to clients timely and to address any issues that need to be resolved. I will not make promises I cannot keep, and I will not give advice or make statements to simply make a client happy. Clients deserve to know the good and bad issues in their cases, and to be prepared for all aspects of the court process and what can happen.
I enjoy what I do very much, but I realize that the legal process may not be enjoyable for those going through it. I want to get my clients through their case as quickly as possible, always making sure that all issues are addressed and questions answered. Going through a divorce or custody case is stressful. Dealing with your lawyer should not be. Thank you for your time.
Education and Awards
I attended Washburn University of Topeka, Kansas, graduating with a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree in 1991. I went on to earn his Juris Doctor (law) degree from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka and was admitted to practice law in the state of Kansas in 1995.
I was named an “Outstanding Attorney” in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Justice Trial Advocacy, and was recognized for an “Outstanding Brief” in 2003 by the United States Department of Justice Appellate Advocacy. My commitment to my clients was also recognized in 2016 when I was acknowledged as a “Distinguished” attorney, peer rated for high professional achievement by Martindale-Hubbell.
In more than 20 years of practicing law, I have worked on hundreds of cases, helping clients through divorce, child custody determinations, adoptions and more. While some of those legal matters were relatively simple, others were more complex, involving highly-contested custody battles and appeals.
In every case I handle, I am committed to making sure my clients’ needs are addressed and that their questions are answered. While I enjoy helping clients, I also understands that family law matters can bring clients stress and frustration. That’s why I work hard to help resolve my clients’ legal cases as quickly as possible, keeping their best interests in mind with every action and interaction.
